Overview

Panasonic TM60 Twin-Memory Full-HD Camcorder with 35.7mm Wide-Angle, Intelligent 35x Zoom.

Power Optical Image Stabilisation in action
The compact, stylish TM60 records onto its 16-GB built-in memory and an SDXC, SDHC, or SD Memory Card.

The TM60 employs Intelligent Resolution Technology and is equipped with Crystal Engine Pro, which helps to record extremely clear, crisp motion images that exceed even Full-HD 1920 x 1080-pixel images in quality.

It eliminates the color smear that tends to occur at subject edges and renders sharp, beautiful images. Advances in the new imaging engine also provide Full-HD 1920 x 1080-pixel recording in all recording modes, including HE mode.

The O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which uses gyro sensors to detect hand-shake and moves a corrective lens to adjust the optical axis and eliminate blurring, has further evolved.

While the conventional O.I.S. system could not sufficiently eliminate low-frequency hand-shake, the new POWER O.I.S. is able to correct it about five times more effectively. The new O.I.S. also features an Active mode to assure clear, beautiful images across the entire range from wide angle to telephoto.

Wide angle lens so you can capture the whole view even in confined spaces
The 35.7mm* wide-angle lens is especially convenient for recording indoors or in tight spaces. It makes it possible to shoot at a close distance from the subject while fitting both the subject and the surrounding area into the frame.

This has the added benefit of allowing the voice of the subject to be clearly recorded, which is an important element in video recordings. The new lens captures beautiful images of wide landscapes and allows large groups of people to fit into the frame. * 35mm-lens equivalent.

Intelligent Auto with Face Recognition
In spite of the compactness of the TM60, the lens covers a wide shooting range from 35.7mm* wide angle to 25x optical zoom.
The optical zoom ensures beautiful images because it causes no degradation in image quality.

In addition, the Intelligent Zoom of the Panasonic TM60, which was made possible by Intelligent Resolution Technology, provides a super-powerful 35x zooming capability. It achieves stunningly clear Full-HD** images even at high zoom levels. * 35mm-lens equivalent. ** Approximately 810 TV lines. 1920 horizontal pixels x 1080 vertical pixels.

The iA function includes Face Recognition feature that recognizes the faces of previously registered subjects, and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure for those special people.

It continues to track the subject as he or she moves anywhere within the LCD frame, making it ideal for video shooting. It is extremely useful for capturing someone’s face in a group.

Names can also be registered and displayed on the LCD while shooting. A total of six people can be registered, and up to three people at a time can be detected when shooting.

The PERFECT Full HD Camera!, 1 Jun 2010

This review is from: Panasonic TM60 Full HD Camcorder With 16GB Inbuilt Flash, X35 Intelligent Zoom, X25 Optical Zoom, Wide Angle Lens, iA + Face Recognition – Black (Electronics)

I am a big fan of Panasonic Products. I have always had a Panasonic camcorder. After 5 years I wanted to upgrade froim a standard def camera to a High Def one.

I bought a Panasonic TM10, the older sister to the TM60. The TM10 came out last year. Although I was happy with the camera, it had some short falls such as bad wind noise due to the position of the mic and poor picture quality in low light.
I then saw the TM60 and wanted it as looked to solve my problems! I sold my TM10 to my brother and quickly purchased it!

The first thing that I noticed was the camera was still as small and light as the TM10. The colour was another thing that I really liked, as usually go for silver. The Black colour just seemed much nicer.
The battery took about an hour and a half to charge, but after that it was as simple as switch on and hit record!

If you are not a true camera pro like me, just make sure you have the iA (Intelligent Auto) setting on. This adjusts everything for you, and adjusts all settings to the surroundings you are in (bright sunshine, dark room, sunset etc).
It’s great that anyone can just take the camera out of it’s box, switch it on, point and shoot and get stunning footage. You don’t need to be an expert at all. Even Grandma could manage to be a James Cameron!-)

The 35 x Zoom is amazing, you have to see it to believe it.
How Panasonic have achieved such a great zoom without losing the HD clarity is beyond me. Full marks to them for making this camera such a powerful beast!
I recorded a close up of a house plant and the detail was astonishing. I then zoomed onto a far away object and the clarity was just as good.

Another feature which has improved are the mic, which has been repositioned from ontop of the camera to the front, thus reducing wind noise.

The camera also has an improved Wind Reduction feature, so this should limit any problem when outside. The TM10 was ruined by the slightest bit of wind and would drown out a lot of the sound. With the mic been repositioned the sound quality has improved a lot.

The Face Recognition feature was surprisingly good. I didn’t believe it would work. I tried it out with my wife. I took a picture of her face, saved her settings in the camera and then each time she appears on screen up pops her name and she is kept in a nice frame so is nicely focussed.
This feature is ideal if your loved ones are in a crowd of people, say on stage. Another feature which worked just as well was the “Smile Detection” where if you are recording and the subjects are smiling then the camera will take a still picture of them whilst still recording the video!
Very clever feature and means you will not miss any smiling moments. Also like how the lens shutter opens itself when powered on. At long last Panasonic you have caught up with the competition here!

The touch screen is like the other Panasonic HD cameras. Easy to use, and clear to watch replays on. You can use your fingers but can press the wrong part if you have big fingers! I tend to use the stylus pen as easier and also stops you smudging the screen. The only problem here is where to keep the stylus!

Battery life is around 2 hours if you are starting and stopping recording. I am happy with this as I won’t be recording for longer than this.
The battery is now charged whilst connected to the camera. There isn’t a separate charge as before, although one can be bought at a cost!

You can use external power to use the camera which is another handy feature. The camera comes with a componant cable and a USB cable to view video on. You will need to buy a mini HDMI – HDMI cable so be warned.
The picture quality when viewing the footage on a full HD TV is out of this world. I am really happy with all the footage I have taken.

It’s a relief as got the camera to take on a holiday of a lifetime to Florida in July so wanted to be confident I had the camera that was up to the job of capturing memories that will last a lifetime.
The Panasonic TM60 I am pleased to say is up to the job.

The one thing to be aware of with HD footage is how you edit it on a computer. Make sure your PC is up to it! If you don’t normally edit then I wouldn’t worry, as it is very easy to save your HD footage direct to DVD or transfer it onto an external HDD. The Panasonic software that comes with the camera is very good. I very easily uploaded some footage direct to YouTube using it.

The reason for the 4 stars is nothing to do with the camera itself. It is to do with the extras that Panasonic seem to charge for. The prime example is the cost of a spare battery. Panasonic have the monopoly here as they don’t allow anyone else to make batteries for their camcorders.
This means there is no competition, so Panasonic can set any price they want. Forty five pounds for a spare battery is wrong. There are batteries that will work with the camera, however it will not display remaining power time etc. Another mark down is no remote control for when you are playing back footage. A lot of rivals still have this extra.

The camera itself though is a winner! I love what it can do, and certainly packs a punch into something so small. Panasonic have come up trumps for delivering such a great camera for such a small price. I can’t wait to do some more filming with it. For anyone considering upgrading to a HD Camera then the Panasonic TM60 or it’s baby sister the SD60 is the camera for you. You will not be disappointed.
*Word of advice, pay for Delivery. I went for Free Super Saver & had a nightmare with Home Delivery Network (again)*
