JVC GY-HMZ1U Review
After the intro of the JVC GS-TD1 earlier this year and selling for under $1,400, JVC introduced to us at the IBC in Holland, the JVC GY-HMZ1U 3D Camcorder which sells for $300 extra.
So what can we expect from this newer version of the Full HD 3D camcorder which the JVC GS-TD1B camcorder couldn’t deliver?
To start with, JVC have developed a fast image engine with selectable 2D or 3D named the Falconbrid Engine with simultaneous processing of independent right and left images at up to 34 Mbps in Full HD 1920×1080.
The GY-HMZ1U twin HD GT Lens designed by JVC to strict quality standards with several aspherical lenses and extra-low dispersion glass minimizes light refraction chromatic aberration for high-contrast images filling the whole frame.
To keep a natural look to the scene while zooming in 3D mode, the GY-HMZ1 automatically adjusts parallax with a unique JVC algorithm that alters the 3D convergence point according to the distance of the subject from the fully synchronized 5-times optical zoom lens.
The GY-HMZ1U 3D Camcorder makes professional stereoscopic 3D image capture accessible to a broad range of users. Recording 3D still image and 3D video with 3D time-lapse recording, the GY-HMZ1U also records 2D video as AVCHD for compatibility with any of your traditional HD-capable video equipment and workflows.
The dual-lens, dual-imager GY-HMZ1U 3D camcorder plays back glasses-free 3D video on its 3.5″ LCD screen.
The twin bright HD lenses in the GY-HMZ1 zoom up to 5x in 3D mode and 10x in 2D mode.
The imagers are also twinned at 3.3 M/p each, the 1/4.1-type CMOS chips capture dual video signals at Full HD 1920 x 1080 that can be recorded as a single file encoded as MVC, a variant of AVCHD MPEG-4 compression that contains double the usual information of a comparable two-dimensional HD file.
The GY-HMZ1U captures AVCHD in traditional 2D at several selectable bit rates, or record 3D as two half-sized images side-by-side producing AVCHD files.
Falconbrid LSI processing enables the recording of 3D video as both 60i, for smooth motion in fast-action shots and as 24p, for a film-like effect. Along with its capability to record cinematic 24p Full HD, what truly sets this GY-HMZ1 camcorder apart from consumer 3D models is the audio section. With built-in “3D” stereo microphones and dual XLRs for high-quality stereo.
The F1.2 Super Bright “JVC 3D TWIN HD GT LENS” and two Back-illuminated AVCHD CMOS Sensors of the GY-HMZ1U offer stunning 3D video with superior low-light performance, while JVC’s unique BIPHONIC audio technology reproduces dynamic 3D SOUND.
