JVC GY-HM100U review
JVC GY-HM100U digital video cameras are compact handheld HD camcorders with performance and features found only in larger and more expensive models.
It’s designed to be easy to use, making it ideal for news reporters and producers.
Seasoned videographers will find that the small size of the JVC GY-HM100U HD camcorders lets them work in environments where larger camcorders would be impractical – all while producing recordings on par with broadcast HD video cameras.
The lightweight body and compact frame of the JVC GY-HM100U HD video cameras gives them the vote of video makers as one of the best hd camcorder models to work with.
JVC GY-HM100U digital video cameras record directly to MPEG-2, with selectable resolutions of 1080 at 25 mbps or 720 at 19 mbps.
Also both can be recorded at 35 mbps in .mov format for the highest quality.
This makes for easier and faster editing.
Two SDHC cards record video in the JVC GY-HM100U HD camcorders, a very inexpensive recording format, but at the same time one of the best mediums with no moving parts, and making for lighter HD video cameras.
Three CCDs with quarter inch progressive scan produce vivid colors.
With a 10x High Definition Fujinon Lens, the JVC GY-HM100U HD video cameras join forces with one of the leaders in broadcast standard video optics.
The 3 element lens is smaller and lighter than most, reducing further the overall weight of the camcorder.
Optical image stabilisation (OIS) helps reduce camcorder shake without any image quality loss.
Audio control in the JVC GY-HM100U digital video cameras is by 2 standard XLR inputs, both with phantom power, and recording 16-bit audio.
The internal microphone is bi-directional, but also supplied is a shotgun microphone of high quality.
The JVC GY-HM100U digital video cameras use edge-detection for image focus assist as in all the JVC Pro HD camcorders, and LoLux shooting mode gives good results in the poorest of lighting conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible piece of equipment, September 22, 2009 By Mantis Guy (Bay Area California) This is the camera I've been waiting for for 7 years. It has everything I've wanted: Incredible HD quality, direct MOV/Final Cut Pro-ready file creation, SDHC card usage, a decent built-in mic... It has taken the quality of the video work I'm doing to a whole new level. I could not be happier with this camera except if I had a 2nd one to do simultaneous 2nd camera angles in the studio... I am trying to make my filming worthy of the quality this camera produces! This is pricey but worth it.. so if you have the $$, don't hesitate to buy this thing, you won't be sorry. 5.0 out of 5 stars If you are working in FCP, this is the cam for you, February 28, 2010 By William K. Scurry Jr. "AmericanCaesar" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME) This review is from: JVC GY-HM100U - Camcorder - High Definition - professional - widescreen - optical zoom: 10 x - supported memory: SDHC - flash card (Electronics) JVC has made it so easy to turn your home office into a full-fledged movie studio by using this streamlined prosumer camera in conjunction with Final Cut Pro. The .mov format is only the beginning -- moving media from camera to hard drive has never been easier, and the HD picture is gorgeous. The camera features every manual option a videographer/filmmaker could ask for to create professional-looking digital movies. I've used it for a few months already, and the investment was well worth it. If you have FCP Studio, consider dropping a few buck for this camera to complete the deal. The one drawback is that battery life runs short, but buy an extra, ya cheapskate.
